Kimberly Ocegueda’s greatest inspiration

Honoring Women’s History Month at DeMine Immigration

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 21, 2025) – As we celebrate Women’s History Month throughout March, DeMine Immigration is honoring the women who have shaped our team. Kimberly Ocegueda, Fort Myers office coordinator, was most inspired by her mother, Veronica Macias, throughout her life.

“My mom has had such a profound impact on my life,” said Ocegueda. “She has shown me that anything is possible if you put your heart into it and work hard for it.”

Macias is originally from Jalisco, Mexico and immigrated to the United States in the early years of her life. Her father independently worked in the tomato fields in the U.S., until he decided to move his family and petition for them.

“We entered the U.S. and would travel back and forth from the U.S. and Mexico every six months at least seven times,” said Macias. “Within a year or two, we became legal permanent residents and then after about five years, I became a citizen.”

After gaining her footing in the U.S., Macias had Ocegueda. She was a single-mom for Ocegueda’s early years.

“She raised me on her own for most of my childhood, and for about 17 years, I was her only child,” said Ocegueda. “Up until I was 10, it was just me and her, and those years were so formative in shaping who I am today. She made sure that I was independent, teaching me to stand on my own and trust myself.”

Macias attended Healde College in California for business. Now, she works as a manager for an optician’s office and as a realtor.

“Growing up, I saw how she balanced everything to make sure I had everything I needed, and that made me appreciate her even more,” said Ocegueda. “Although the weight of raising me was on her shoulders alone, my mom always made the best of every situation. She never let anything get in the way of making meaningful memories with me.”

Macias’ strength and resilience is what shaped Ocegueda into the woman she is today, which led her to a career at DeMine Immigration Law Firm.

“I think it's great that she helps people who feel hopeless or lost see that they can build a better life in the U.S.,” said Macias. “DeMine Immigration Law Firm is a great place where she can grow, and it’s a very important industry that changes lives.”
