Breaking news: cancellation of CHNV parole program paused

District court judge issues decision to stop Trump administration

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 11, 2025) – On April 10, 2025, a Boston District Court judge issued a decision to halt the Trump administration from immediate cancellation of the CHNV Parole program. This ruling allows CHNV immigrants to remain in the United States longer than the previous April 24, 2025 removal date.

This cancellation initially allowed immigrants only 30 days to depart from the United States with the necessary removal date of April 24, 2025. However, U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani’s verdict gives CHNV immigrants temporary relief with an extended timetable.

“This is a significant step,” said President Indera DeMine. “We’re not sure how long this halt will be in place, but it means that thousands of immigrants who entered the U.S. under the CHNV parole program now do not have to leave by the April 24, 2025 date that the administration had sent out.”

The Biden administration previously granted this humanitarian parole for over 500,000 immigrants from Cuban, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela, which became known as the CHNV Parole program. However, the Trump administration announced on March 25, 2025 that anyone currently under the parole program would have their parole cancelled effective April 24, 2025.

“If you are under the CHNV parole program, you probably received an automated message in your USCIS account letting you know that you must depart the U.S. by April 24, 2025,” said DeMine. “This district court judge decision is significant as it means that thousands of immigrants will have some additional time to remain in the U.S. and while we are not sure how long yet, this comes as great news for the immigrant community.”
